SWET Shop Talk: Encouragement of Style Sheets
Date: April 15 (Wednesday)

Place: Books on Japan (library), Jinbocho, Tokyo; use the A2 exit of Jinbocho subway (Toei); turn left at street level and walk about 12 steps; the "Books on Japan" flag hangs over the doorway and a stairway leads up to the library on the second floor.
No fee will be charged.

Many problems that translators, editors, and proofreaders face in work with complex projects (books, periodicals, websites, or the promotional material and communications of an organization or office) can be solved by creating a style sheet. A good style sheet can speed up your translation and editing, make your writing more professional, and simplify arguments with clients or authors. SWET has its own style sheet ([url=https://www.swet.jp/articles/article/swet_style_sheet/_C32]https://www.swet.jp/articles/article/swet_style_sheet/_C32[/url]) and encourages members to draw up style sheets for their work and clients whenever possible.
Where to begin? What are your options? Who should be involved? SWET’s own Japan Style Sheet provides a springboard for any Japan-related wordsmith, but it may need some updating or supplementing. How shall we do this? While sharing our individual style-related stories and quandaries, we’ll discuss the JSS and other style sheets, and consider any questions raised among participants or in queries received at info@swet.jp. Even if you can’t attend, please consider these questions and let us know.
