About Registering at SWET.jp
In order to use some of the features of this site (for example, to post messages in the forums or comments in the weblog), it is necessary to register first. Registration is free, but it is important to note that the act of registering at this site does not confer the full benefits of SWET membership, which are available only by applying for membership in SWET.
Also, it is similarly important to note that being a member of SWET does not mean that you are automatically registered to use the Web site.
SWET Members and Friends
Upon registering, each applicant is sorted into either of two categories, "SWET Members" or "Friends," based on the applicant's membership status at the time of registration. If the membership status of a registered user changes, the category of the registration will be changed accordingly. For example, if someone registers without having already joined SWET, that person will be put in the "Friends" category. If that same person later decides to join SWET, the registration will be updated to "SWET Members" to reflect that change in status. This distinction serves to make the site accessible to non-members while still restricting members-only content and privileges to SWET members.

Real Names as Screen Names
On the registration page, there is a field for your desired "screen name," which as its name implies is the name that will be shown on the screen for any comments you make or messages that you post. Please note that, although not required, it is customary for people to use their real names as their screen name. If you choose not to register using your real name, please understand that (A) we may not be able to recognize you if you are a member and (B) some people may be disinclined to respond to your posts.
