As discussed about a year ago, I have opened a YahooGroup to allow people to vote on this. The award itself will consist of a public announcement and a free pat on the back from whoever happens to be closest to the lucky winner. In a more significant sense, though, it is a form of public recognition for people who have gone out of their way to help others, to contribute to the capabilities of individuals or the community as a whole, and who (in your considered opinion) deserve a thank you.
This group will be closed at the end of January 2006. It is designed solely to allow people to vote on who they felt was the most helpful person in the
Japanese-English (yes, that’s bidirectional) translation community in 2005, consisting mostly of the JAT, Honyaku and SWET lists (but everyone’s
welcome).
Anyone can submit a message without registering, but nobody will be able to read messages until after voting closes.
Each message subject line should give the name of the person you think was the most helpful, to you and/or the translation community at large. Use either Japanese or English, but if you send Japanese using incorrect encoding and it can’t be read, your vote will not be counted. You may include reasons or any anything else in the body of the message, but do not have to.
I will collate results in early February, announce the winner, and (if possible) make all the messages public.
