Another interesting announcement from FCCJ:
PANEL DISCUSSION: The Foreign Correspondents? Club of Japan will host “After Paper & Ink: The Future Of Foreign Correspondence,” with Jim Brooke, NY Times (Newspapers); Christian Caryl, Newsweek (Magazines); Mark Devlin, Crisscross News & Metropolis (Internet); Bill Dorman, Bloomberg (News Wire); and Atika Shubert, CNN (TV). The Internet is quickly undermining the economics of paper and ink newspapers and magazines. Foreign bureaus are closing, and foreign correspondents are losing their jobs. But readers will always need intelligent reporting from around the world. How will they get it? How will they pay for it?
The event is on February 7, 18:30-21:00, Yurakucho Denki Bldg. 20F North. FCCJ members and their guests, please reserve in advance at the Front Desk (3211-3161) or online (http://www.fccj.or.jp—please log in to reserve). The charge is 1,750 yen per person (tax incl.) and includes a buffet dinner.
