EDxTokyo, your chance to spread the TED concept to Japan

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an annual event where the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to speak about whatever they are most passionate about. Speakers have included such luminaries as Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono. The CEOs and scientists, artists and philanthropists who attend TED call it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future” and The diverse audience is almost as extraordinary as the speakers! (You can check it out for yourself online at http://www.ted.com) .

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx, where x = independently organized event. A group of volunteers is working on TEDxTokyo, a self-organized TED-like event to be held May 22 at the Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) in Tokyo The organizers are looking for volunteers to provide Japanese translations and subtitles for TEDTalks to be shown during the event. There’s no money to be made by volunteering, but the chance to meet 200 of Japan’s most active movers and shakers is nothing to sneeze at. The work is sure to be interesting, and we at The Word Works are proud to be lending a hand.
