Recently, whenever someone posts a new article in the SWET Weblog, we get a notification on SWET-L that starts with the Subject line [swet-l]  [SWET Weblog]. Likewise, whenever new content is available on the site, I’ve been posting messages that start with the Subject line [swet-l]  [New]. This makes me wonder if we could do without the [swet-l] part.

Do you have an opinion about this? If so, please let me know.

I’d prefer to keep the [swet-l] tag since it immediately identifies all mails coming to me from the SWET list, although as far as I’m concerned you could get rid of all the subsidiary tags like [SWET Weblog] or whatever - as long as I know the mail is from SWET, I don’t really need to know what part/function of SWET it refers to.

Filtering on header lines (swet-ml@) has been my basic strategy since the 1990s, so the [swet-ml] Subject line tag is redundant.

The others, however, can stay. Or should I say “must stay”? Because I have filter rules giving higher priority to events.

I’m with Maynard… filtering only has to be set up once, and there are times when I’d rather be able to see more of the subject line than the word [SWET] when glancing through a list of incoming mail.

Like Maynard and Edward, I filter on the mailing address of the SWET list server, not the subject line. So, I would not miss the [swet-l] tag if it disappeared. It just takes up space at the beginning of the subject line, as far as I am concerned.

Like Maynard, Edward and Mark, I filter on the mailing address .....
so the change is no problem for me.
