Registration Open/2nd Call for Proposals for IJET-17

The IJET-17 Organizing Committee is proud to announce that registration is now open for IJET-17 to be held June 17th-18th, 2006, at the International Conference Center Kobe, Kobe, Japan. Both registration and payment can be made online. The Organizing Committee is also accepting proposals for presentations and looking for participants/organizers of panel discussions at IJET-17. We invite proposals dealing with all aspects of Japanese/English translation, including topics of interest to both beginning translators and experienced translators, and topics related to the business of translation. The following types of proposals are encouraged: 1) proposals focusing on a specific field, such as translation of chemistry or literature, 2) proposals on general topics, such as translation resources or professional development for translators, or 3) proposals concerning specific types of documents, such as patents or contracts. Presentations and panel discussions may be conducted in Japanese, English, or both.

The Organizing Committee is also planning several presentations focusing on lifestyle-related topics concerning translators/interpreters. These include topics such as balancing parenting with translating, and a panel discussion on how freelance and self-employed translators balance their work and private life.

To submit a proposal for a presentation or a panel at IJET-17, please send the following information to Richard Sadowsky (ijet-
17 [at] jat.org) by March 1, 2006:

* Title of presentation or panel
* Abstract for presentation or panel (max. 150 words)
* Length of presentation or panel (50 minutes or 80 minutes)
* Name(s) of presenter(s) or panel members
* Bio for each presenter or panel member (max. 100 words per person)
* E-mail address for presenter or contact person

If you have an idea for a panel, but need help identifying other participants, please contact the Committee. If you have any questions about the program at IJET-17, please don’t hesitate to ask.
