Picture Book Exhibitions

For those of you with some travel time and an interest in picture books and illustration, there are many summer exhibits still on throughout Japan at galleries, art museums and picture book museums. The SCBWI Tokyo newsletter has an extensive list with links to gallery and museum websites. For example, The Bologna Illustrators Exhibition from the Bologna Children’s Book Fair will be on view at five locations: Tokyo, Nishinomiya and Yokkaichi, Ishikawa and Kagoshima; the Tokyo exhibit is now at the Itabashi Art Museum through August 17. The International Library of Children’s Literature in Ueno is currently showing Door to the Czech Republic, an exhibition of Czech children’s literature, and The Chihiro Art Museum Azumino has an Exhibition of International Picture Book Illustrators. The Karuizawa Museum of Picture Books is showing Picture Books: Stories by Hans Christian Andersen, and The Mitsumasa Anno Museum in Tsuwano City, Shimane Prefecture, is showing Design, Picture Books and Landscape Painting by Mitsumasa Anno. For the full listing and the links visit the Bulletin Board pages of the Spring/Summer 2008 SCBWI Tokyo Newsletter Carp Tales.
