SWET Member Juliet Winters Carpenter’s Novel Translation Longlisted for Best Translated Book Award

It has just been announced on March 11 that A True Novel, by Mizumura Minae, translated by Juliet Winters Carpenter, was longlisted by the University of Rochester for its Best Translated Book Award.

A long-time resident of Kyoto, professor at Doshisha Women's College of Liberal Arts and SWET stalwart, Carpenter is also the translator of The Last Shogun: The Life of Tokugawa Yoshinobu (Shiba Ryōtarō), Waiting on the Weather: Making Movies with Akira Kurosawa (Teruyo Nogami), and Salad Anniversary (Tawara Machi). She is also one of the translators of Clouds Above the Hill (Shiba Ryōtarō).
