Translation and Shared Literary Imagination in the Early Twentieth Century: A Workshop

The Sophia University Institute of Comparative Culture's Research Unit “Japanese Texts in Motion” has announced the presentation of a workshop, titled Translation and Shared Literary Imagination in the Early Twentieth Century.

This is the second workshop of the Institute of Comparative Culture's collaborative research project focusing on the translation and global circulation of Japanese literature and culture in the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. This year’s workshop features papers that explore the issues of translation and shared literary imagination in the early 20th century, including: the translation of literary form and poetics, literary history, the translation of ideas and literary relations in East Asia, and the making of a literary icon through translation. These papers will expand understanding into the vital roles that translation played in the global circulation of “Japanese” texts.
